Summer market season is nearly in full swing with lots of strawberries and tomatoes popping up! With kids still at home, it’s a great time to get them involved in cooking experiments! Below are some of my go-to recipes for the summer months you can try with your family:
- Grillable Black Bean Burgers – This is a great #MeatlessMonday meal and a fun recipe to get the kids involved in! It’s also perfect with the heirloom tomatoes and lettuce from Garners (and sweet potato fries). If you don’t have a grill, pan fry them in a bit of Keros olive oil from Ancient Foods.
- Local nutritionist Alexandra Tallulah posted these 5-ingredient bagels a few weeks ago and they look great to make with the littles! I’ll take mine with Cold Country’s Salmon Spread and a cup of Via Volcan.
- This one might be best for more advanced kid-cooks in your family, but homemade Rhubarb Goat Cheese Pop Tarts a great opportunity for older ones to work on kitchen chemistry– balancing flavors and understand how the fermentation in vinegar works! You’ll want to get to market early to get rhubarb from Kuhn Orchards (but could probably sub strawberries), and don’t forget the chevre from Cheese Goatees!
- Not a recipe, but what kid doesn’t love tater tots? I’ve been loving the breakfast tots from Cracked Eggery and strongly encourage picking some up on your way home from market on Saturday.
